The show was axed from NBC's Peacock streaming service after just one seasons.
Punky Brewster became the most recent reboot to be cancelled this month. Looking at recent headlines for TV shows rebooted by the major TV studios (including digital servers), reboots do not actually seem to be doing as well as studio executives and advertisers would like people to believe. Reboots are big business for Hollywood, or so it would seem. Between the change in character personalities & the fact that the voice actors voices have deepened, they should have aged-up the Warners to young teenagers to explain all of that off. The Goodfeathers could have parodied Madmen, Minerva could have been a parody of a Twitch streamer or Instagramer, Katy could have been a modern teenager, Hello Nurse could have become a businesswoman, Runt could have been retooled as a positive representation of the disabled or been made a completely different kind of stupid that doesn't mock the disabled, Flavio & Marita could have been parodies of rich D list celebrities who flaunt their wealth. Unlike the Warners or Pinky & the Brain, these characters never got a deep dive into their personalities & could have been changed. Was it to save money on hiring as few voice actors as possible? Instead of labeling some of them as problematic, boring, or dated, they could have been updated & retooled. 2)Got rid of all the other skit characters.
Dot is more like Yakko, Yakko is nothing like his old self. 1)Made unnecessary changes to character's personalities & don't explain it (at least say "people change with time & puberty"). If variety is the spice of life, then Animaniacs 2020 is unseasoned.
